Wire Rope Header

The construction of your strand, aircraft cable, or wire rope defines a large percentage of the final performance characteristics. The strength, flexibility, fatigue life, and torque resistance all rely heavily on the manner in which wires and strands are laid together in the finished rope. When choosing the construction to use in your next product or project, take the time to review the difference between common constructions listed below and to understand the potential impact each can have in your application.

Strand Core produces strand, cable, and wire ropes up to 5/8" in diameter and can provide custom products and configurations meeting the most demanding specifications. All Wire Ropes are manufactured in stainless steel, galvanized, bright carbon steel, as well as other alloys. As a manufacturer, Customized constructions are available on request. If you have any questions about these constructions, or any aspect of selecting a strand, aircraft cable, or wire rope, please contact us today.

Strands

1x3 Strand Non-Flexible

Also known as a three wire twist, stores very little twist due to lacking a core wire. Often used as the core strand in other constructions. Very stiff with little stretch.

1x7 Strand Non-Flexible

Basic Strand for all concentric cable, relatively stiff in larger diameters, offers the least amount of stretch

1x19 Strand Non-Flexible

Smooth outside, fairly flexible and resisted compressive forces. Performs well in structural rigging and "Push / Pull" operations.

1x37 Strand Non-Flexible

Smooth outside, higher flexibility than other strands. Basic strand used in larger wire ropes, performs well in straight line operations with minimal bend.

Aircraft Cables

3x7 Aircraft Cable - Flexible

Also known as a three wire twist, stores very little twist due to lacking a core wire. Often used as the core strand in other constructions. Very stiff with little stretch.

7x7 Aircraft Cable - Flexible

For use when extreme flexibility ins't required. Commonly used in automotive and aircraft controls. Performs well in a wide range of mechanical applications.

7x19 Aircraft Cable - Flexible

Performs extremely well when flexibility and fatigue are concerns. Aircraft controls, sailboat rigging, winches, and garage doors are common applications.

19x7 Aircraft Cable Non-Rotating

Used in single-line hoisting operations are necessary. Construction resists natural tendency to rotate in one direction. Typical applications include helicopter rescue hoist and other critical lifting operations.

Wire Ropes

6x19 IWRC Wire Rope - Flexible

Used extensively in hoisting cranes, dredges, excavators, logging, and oil field applications.

6x19 Fiber Core Wire Rope - Highly Flexible

Superior flexibility with less strength than a steel core. Used Commonly in cranes, dredges, excavators, logging, oil field, and marine applications.

6x37 IWRC Wire Rope - Flexible

Higher wire count offers increased flexibility over 6x19 IWRC Wire Ropes while maintaining strength. Used extensively in hoisting cranes, dredges, excavators, logging, and oil field applications.

6x37 Fiber Core Wire Rope - Highly Flexible

Provides Superior flexibility with less strength than a steel core. Used Commonly in cranes, dredges, excavators, logging, oil field, and marine applications.
